My ex-husband is a WOW addict, hence - EX-Husband! How a 57 year old man could waste his life for 8 years, playing 60 plus hours a week in a fantasy game and totally reject the reality of the real world and completely reject and ignore his wife of 15 years is something I will never understand. His addiction was overwhelming - his personality changed so much, I began to ask myself what happened to the man I fell in love with and the man that I married. He once told me "real men don't wear diamonds" - my belief is that he never was a REAL man - just a jerk in a WOW warrior suit that didn't care anything about anyone other than himself - and MAYBE his online guild members - I'll never forgive him for the choice he made - the game or me - he chose the game - - - - -

I was addicted to WoW for over a year before I managed to kick it. I sometimes miss the social dynamic of the game and the fantasy but the outside world offers more fulfilling challenges.

So glad I found this website. My son has been addicted to online gaming since he was 14. He's lied, cheated and stolen money, he's also threatened us with violence in order to keep playing. He's now 20. He screwed up college and has now left home because I tried to put an end to the games once and for all. He nows lives in a grotty flat and has no job but he says he's happy. No doubt due to the fact that there are no interruptions to his gameing. When I went looking for help and support (before he was 18) there was nothing available and so we basically had to deal with all the tantrums and arguements on our own. He tried hurting hmself several times when he was disconnected and as loving parents we were obviously distraught. We hardly see him now and he never phones. Other parents beware. Don't leave it thinking he'll grow out of it. Get help before it's too late.

Unbelieveable. Myself 14 years old also an addict at this WoW game. I got off at 4 in the morning some summer nights, and truely cold turkey is the best way to go for this game. I was at the mall with my buddy who plays WoW and there was a pc store where you could play it, and watching him play was repoening my mind to want to play. So gratz to you and everyone else who have broke through. Thanks!

Good article. Well-thought out and totally true. I have a friend who's addicted, she follows all the signs you pointed out. We're trying to get her to stop playing but it's obvious that though she wants to stop she can't. She spends about 5 hours a day on the game, sometimes more! Skips classes, misses work, etc.. It's horrible. The game makers have mastered their art!
