Anatomy of the One-Page Sales Pitch

The internet one-page sales pitch website isn’t a new concept, but they seem to be proliferating like wildfire the past couple years. I think this is due to the rise – and ease – of affiliate marketing. People just toss these sites up, hoping they’ll stumble onto something that works. And sites like Clickbank or Adsonar seem to do little to police these sites advertising through them. And why should they when they’re making a fortune, too? Many of these pages are exact replicas of each other, because the person throwing the site together is using the same template over and over again. So here are some of the tell-tale signs you are at one of these rag-tag affiliate spider webs: … Read entire article »

Automasstraffic.com Nag-Fest

I really do hate sites like Automasstraffic.com. First of all, any site that promises 867,981 targeted visitors and banks over $540,000 on autopilot can’t be taken serious, can it? … Read entire article »

Helping Frank Jones get his $15 Million

Today I discovered this 419 “gem” from “Frank Jones” with the email address mmet12@me.com. It’s very simple – help him get $15 million, and I get 35% – easy right? Problem is, it’s a scam. 90% of the public knows this by now, but there are still unfortunate souls falling for this. Below is the content of the email I received. (Note that in the email I received, the text itself wasn’t sent, but it was an image of the text!) … Read entire article »

Bed Bugs Bite Back

When I was a kid in the 1970′s, bed bugs were relegated to the nighttime saying. I had never met anyone who actually had first hand experience with bed bugs, aside from stories from older people. They were about as common as small pox in my universe. So how did bed bugs make a comeback in recent years? There are actually several reasons. … Read entire article »

The Craigslist 419

It was only a few days ago that I posted a recent 419 scam email that one of my junk accounts received. But now a new twist landed in the inbox of my main account. They responded to an ad I posted on Craigslist, and did so in a very crafty way. Here’s what happened. … Read entire article »

Structured Settlements: Some of the Big Players

There has been a proliferation of lawyers advertising “cash now” to purchase structured settlements for a lump sum. This practice has been shunned by some independent legal analysts as contrary to the reason structured settlements exist at all. It has also been hailed as a viable alternative for those who would prefer to receive all of their money at once. While the debate rages, here are some of the major players in the purchasing of structured settlements in recent years. This certainly isn’t a complete list. I’ve listed the BBB ratings for each, as of October 8, 2010. This can change at any time. I also take any BBB rating with a grain of salt. I’ve personally dealt with horrible companies (none listed below) who held an A+ rating. … Read entire article »

Structured Settlements: Overview

I’ve seen a lot of long-winded definitions of structured settlements, but really it is just a payment plan. Typically a structured settlement comes in the form of worker’s compensation or some physical injury settlement. Rather than taking the full lump sum settlement, a structured payment plan is constructed to be paid over time. They have really only come into prominence in the US over the past 35 years. … Read entire article »

419 Scam ‘O The Day

It’s always fun to peruse my junk mail folder. Especially a hotmail account I have purely for junk purposes. It never ceases to amaze me to find the “419 Scams” still floating around. Which means there are still people falling for it. So if you’ve been under a rock for the past 10 years – these “help me release money and I’ll give you a cut” scams are ancient. Even the FBI specifies this scam on their site. Well I thought I’d post today’s 419 Scam Of The Day here for sh*ts and giggles… (especially entertaining is the horrid English) … Read entire article »

Vons Donation Requests

Vons is a big West Coast grocery store, if you don’t already know. I rarely shop there because their prices are far higher than the Smith’s a little further from my house. But that’s not the point here. What bugs me is that they are always – and I mean ALWAYS – asking me if I want to “donate” when I check out. Not only does the checker ask me, but I’m asked when I use my debit card, too. I once asked the checker why I must be asked to donate TWICE every time I come through the line. She just said she was required to ask. I know it’s not her fault, but it still bugs me! … Read entire article »

Could Adsense be a Scam?

I’ve seen forums on fire with claims of thievery by Google… something like, “I had 5000 page impressions but Google shows half that!” So when I see such scathing and damning claims, I know I have to take a look. … Read entire article »
