Beer Review: Moosbacher Weissbier

A recent trip to the Total Wine & More here in Las Vegas found the Waffles crew with an inordinate amount of craft beer to taste, so we decided we’d give our take on what we picked up. We are by no means experts or beer snobs, but we love trying new brews. So first up on our docket is Moosbacher Weissbier. Two things prompted us to grab this one from the shelf: The fact that it’s a wheat beer, and that awesome swing-top bottle. So maybe there are better reasons to choose a beer, but that’s what we went with here, and we’re sticking with it.

Looking at the bottle itself, we find the following info:

Brewery
Private Landbrauerei Scheuerer

Alc/Vol
4.7%

Additional Label info

  • Product of Bavaria, Germany
  • Moosbach Germany 92709
  • Imported by Eurobrew, Inc. Ashland, MA 01721
  • www.eurobrews.com

The reviews are rather lackluster on the beer. Personally, I thought it was pretty good, definitely worth trying.

It’s a crisp, light wheat beer with hints of citrus. It’s perhaps lighter than the other Hefeweizens that I’ve tried in the past, making it a somewhat generic taste. Some may say it’s too light, though not so for this drinker.

I enjoyed my bottle of Moosbacher Weissbier, but it wasn’t a standout in the category and if I’m going to drink a beer along these lines, I’ll reach for a Hoegaarden instead.
