‘Moesha’ Star Yvette Wilson Dies at Age 48

Yvette Wilson, best known for her role as Andell Wilkerson on the sitcom Moesha and its spinoff The Parkers has died at the age of 48. Reports in May had indicated that Wilson was struggling with Stage 4 cervical cancer and had also had a recent kidney transplant. A website had even been created to help the star fund her medical bills. A month later, she lost her battle.

Yvette’s co-star, Shar Jackson, had recently Tweeted prayer requests for Yvette. Today, she Tweeted the loss of Ms. Wilson:

Oh god….. My heart is soooo unbelievably broken ….

This was followed up with:

I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but god has chosen to take my sister Yvette home.. …

“RIP Yvette Wilson” began trending on Twitter not long after the news broke.

Yvette Wilson was born on March 6, 1964 and attended San Jose State University, majoring in communications before enjoying an acting career that spanned 20 years. She landed roles in such films as House Party 2 and House Party 3. Television appearances included In Living Color, Thea, and The Jamie Foxx Show. She will be best remembered for her role as Andell Wilkerson which she portrayed from 1996-2000 on Moesha, and from 1999-2004 on The Parkers. Her last credited role was as herself in Life After: Shar Jackson in 2010.

A lack of immediate news covered prompted some to ask if the announcement of Yvette Wilson’s death was a hoax. It is not a hoax. Her illness has been widely covered, and her dear friends have corroborated her passing. Yvette Wilson is survived by her husband Jerome Harry, who is a record producer at Fat Daddy Records, a label they founded together in 2004.
