This place will call you and try to sell you health insurance. You won’t speak to a live person, but their automated system will call you out of the blue and ask for you to leave your name and phone number so a live salesman can call you back. The nerve!

Should you decide to take their call, or call them back, you’ll receive the following message:

If you do not currently have health insurance, have been denied coverage in the past,  or feel that you are overpaying and would like free, no-obligation information on affordable health insurance plans which have a 100% acceptance guarantee, please press 1 now.  Every single person that applies is guaranteed to be accepted. Press 1 now to learn more information or press 9 to be removed from this list. 

If you press 1, they will continue:

In order to apply for these new plans, you must be between the ages of 30 and 63. If you can afford at least $150 a month and are not on Medicare, please provide the following information and a licensed insurance agent will call you back shortly to discuss these new guaranteed acceptance plans. After the beep, please leave your full name and phone number and that you are interested in a guaranteed health insurance plan. Once again, if you are not on Medicare, please leave your information. Thanks and have a blessed day.

They don’t tell you who they are, which is a big red flag. For this reason, I have left my number and will find out more about them when they call back.  They also use an Oregon phone number, which seems to be used a lot in recent months by telemarketers.

Update: This morning I received the following message from phone number 9546263284:
Good morning, this is Jeanette from the health enrollment center. We have approved your application for immediate coverage in the state of Nevada. Give us a call at 8776739514 to discuss all your insurance enrollment options including your free dental and vision upgrade.  Call me as soon as you get this message. Again my number is 8776739514 and my extension is 202. Have a wonderful day. Bye.

Now that we have their real phone number, and not the one they’re using to spamming America with, we can find out who they are. It turns out that we find two different listings for the phone number 8776739514.

Listing 1
North Star Health, which according to this BBB listing is located at 218 E. Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33613. There is no rating for this entry, but we find that it is listed as “Insurance-Sold by Telemarketing Offers” and that the company is handled by a different BBB, which is listed below.

Listing 2
MedCare One, Inc. according to another listing, is located at  701 W. Cypress Creek Rd., #200, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309. The contact is Corey Shader, President, and the business is listed as having started on 10/14/2010. The fax number is 954-626-3882, which is almost identical to the phone number that called me back.

This particular listing has an “F” rating, with 4 of 6 complaints unanswered by the company. Of their 4 unresolved complaints, 3 of those are “Problems with Product/Service” and one is with “Advertising / Sales Issues.”

I find it rather suspicious that they called me back and said my application was approved, when I merely left a fake name and my phone number.

I wouldn’t do business with them.
