Gas Auto Club: Legit or Scam?

Did you receive a call claiming you could get $100 in free gas for spending $40? So did we! The call came from the phone number 8772044635, along with a lengthy recorded message. The question is whether or not this is a legit offer or just a scam.

First, let’s take a look at what they’re offering. If you call 877-204-4635, you’ll hear the following message:

Hello and thanks for picking up. Would you like $100 in free gas for spending $40? We’re looking for individuals in your area to expand a membership program that allows you to give away $100 in free gas each time someone joins the gas auto club for $40. Question – do you have $40? Think about how much you spend on gas each month. If we could show you how to eliminate your monthly gas bill for $40, could you get excited about that? If the answer is yes, here’s how it works: Every time you offer $100 in free gas to someone and they join the gas auto club for $40,  you make $80 to $90 the very next week. My third week in the gas auto club I gave 40 people $100 in free gas. I made 40 times $90 in on week. Bottom line – it’s less than $40 to get started and you get $100 in free gas. With our system, you can earn $500 to $1000 each week. For more information on getting started, press 1 now. To be removed, press 2.

Pressing 1, you’ll hear the following message.

Congratulations and thanks for taking the next step. I know your time is valuable so please let us know the best time to call you along with your name and phone number. Once again, the best time to call you along with your name and phone number. Speak slowly and clearly and someone will return your call. Thank you and have a great day.

My first impression is that it sounds more like a pyramid scheme than anything else. I have yet to receive their callback, so my opinion may change after I do.

One red flag is that the message doesn’t list a company name or website. Searching online for similar companies will yield several old websites that are no longer in business. Plus, the internet is almost completely devoid of information on this type of offer. The few sites I’ve found that discuss it point to companies that no longer exist.

For example, read Is cheapgasonlinenow.com legit? and see what this older site was all about – and the offer sounds quite similar.

At this point in my research, it’s my opinion that the “free gas card” offer is almost certainly one of the following:

  • A pyramid scheme
  • A “rewards” program, which will be impossible to complete
  • A fly-by-night operation

I’m convinced there is either a catch or it’s a complete scam.

I’ll be updating this article as more information comes in. Until then, I’d like to hear from you. Have you received a call or text offering free gas cards? What did they say and what number was it from?

7.2.12 – Just now Received a call exactly as you describe. I gave my first name and tel. # so am awaiting a call. It may be a mlm or scam or whatever. Something else must be involved as one $40. payment can’t produce $100. in gas and a $90. commission.

For the past two months, I have been receiving calls about the “Gas Auto Club from telephone number 210-764-5311. You can call this number now and it will connect you to an automated recording that ask you to press “1″ or “2.” Neither one works.
