Target Scam Gift Card Text Message

Did you get a text saying you won a Target gift card? Unfortunately, it’s just a scam, but you’re not alone because there are many people who received the same text. Read on for details.

The text we received was from 4129448456, and read:

Your entry last month has WON! Go to http://www.target.com.ppdf.biz/?claimid=113 and enter your Winning Code “6655″ to claim your FREE $500 Target Giftcard!

If you look carefully at the URL, they want you to think it’s from “target.com” but actually it’s from ppdf.biz. They disguise it with target.com.ppdf.biz, but that’s not Target.com! Take a look at the whois on this domain and you’ll see that it was created just last week and is located in Panama. Still believe them?

When you visit the site, the top says it’s a $1000 gift card – not $500. If you go there and enter the code, you’ll be redirected to target.thegiftcarddeal.com. It looks official, but it’s not. Reading the fine print at the bottom reveals that it’s just another “rewards” program in which you’ll be asked to sign up for a long list of programs which will be nearly impossible to fulfill.

I suggest you read this earlier article from a similar Best Buy gift card scam, as this is an ongoing scam. And read this one which is an almost identical scam, also pretending to award Best Buy gift card.

It looks official but it's not, no matter how cute the dog is.

I tried calling the number back, only to hear a message telling me the user has not set up their voice mail. Do you think that’s a coincidence?

This site’s terms & conditions reference DailyDealFinder.com. That domain is most likely the original site from which this template was taken. DailyDealFinder.com was the subject of a March post here for a “free” iPad, based on a similar rewards program. Oddly, the Terms for this site start off:

DailyDealFinder.com
MEMBER INCENTIVE PROGRAM PARTICIPATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

Last Modified October 15, 2009

Bottom Line
There is no $500 or $1000 Target gift card to be “won” by anyone. It’s a “rewards” program that’s nearly impossible to complete and not even worth the time you’ve spent reading this. Ignore ‘em!

Did you receive a text for this offer? Please post the URL and phone number below to help us alert others!

I’ve also seen target.myrewards2go.com with a similar “offer” though it’s unclear whether or not these are related. What is certain is that it is yet another “rewards” offer which requires you and your friends to sign up – so it’s not really “free” either.

A similar “service” out there is 100CardNow.com which is hooked in with OnlineRewardsClub.com. This is a similar, if not related, “rewards” program which requires your participation in 13 “sponsor offers.”

Note: Other known “promotions’ by this same company (that you should avoid) include:

I received a text from 240-645-6634 early July 14. It looked legit and considering I have a Target card, I thought, “Hey, maybe I got lucky?!?!” I soon found out it was a scam because they wanted me to then choose a $100 Best Buy card or a bunch of dumb Disney movies (which did not include “The Black Hole” – Disney’s first PG movie, so that was a mark against these Nigerians, :-D )

I’ll be waiting with baited breath for that gift card, but I texted a rather nasty, expletive-laden reply to the sender that begins with “F” and ends with “U”.

It’s pretty pathetic that our country has no control over our telephone communications. Of course, the number I received the text from was a local number. After checking, it ends up being a mobile phone number. I suppose it wouldn’t be too difficult for someone to modify(aka “Hack”) a cell phone to allow them to send hundreds of text messages to consecutive numbers. You could use the phone to give you access to a wireless network, which you could then do any number of things. Those are just my thoughts/ideas, not sure how much is actually possible.

  38. Rainbow says:

    July 14, 2012 I got the message at 9:20 pm PDT from 407-257-8983 for target.com.ttjh.biz :-(

  39. Joy says:

the phone number i got was 541.285.0346. I never checked out the site because of the weird ” you have won” part. I am on the internet a lot and as much as i could use the money I know a lot scams out there. :(

  40. doug jacobson says:

the ph nbr from mine was 360-497-6586. enter “360″, …com.tvtz.biz

Can they scam anything from your phone or computer if you don’t enter anything? Don’t call the number, don’t check out website? Is it mainly they’re trying to get personal info? (I don’t know b/c I didn’t do anything but check online w/google re: “target gift card scam” & got here.).
I think they have the technology to track these guys down but hey…it might be their own guys doing this. The way this gov’t has been turning over every rock they can find that has a $ on it, and coming up w/some sorry reason why they are going to take it…& now w/a Supreme Court that does it’s own interpretation in order to push thru a scandalous act…it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. I put nothing past this administration. Anyways that’s my conspiracy (hey, ever look at that word closely? cons-piracy? It’s cons pirating us alright!

Thanx for posting this for us.
