Eddie Murphy Did Not Die in a Snowboarding Accident

Twitter is the place where celebrities are killed off on a daily basis, at least in rumor form. Today’s rumor is that Eddie Murphy was killed in a snowboarding accident. The rumor is false.

Twitter lit up with the rumor today, and a fake news-like link was included to give it credibility. The link reported the following story:

The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.

Eddie Murphy was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.

Eddie is alive and well as of this writing.

The story falls apart quickly when we look a little deeper. That exact same story and photo are used by the same site to report that Jaden Smith had died – which was also false. The same photo was used for Jim Carrey death rumors in 2010, which were obviously false as well.

This isn’t the first time the Eddie Murphy rumor has been circulated. Prior versions had him dying in a skiing accident. Here’s a report from TMZ in February, debunking a similar story at that time. In fact, it seems that on a weekly basis, there is another fake celebrity death.
