Malware Alert: “Wow! I Can’t Believe That You Can See Who is Viewing Your Profile!”

Some scams just never seem to die, such as the “I can’t believe that you can see who is visiting your profile” scam on Facebook. Let’s look at this scam a little closer:

You’ve almost certainly seen the posts from friends, such as:

VVOVV l cant believe that you can see vvho is viewing your proffile! l just checked my T0P proflle visitors and l am SHOCKED at vvho ls still seeing my proflle You can also see VVHO SEES YOUR PROFFlLE

Version 2:

W0W l cannot believe that u can check who have seeing ur proffile! l just savv my T0P flle visitors and l am trully SHOCKED at who ls checking my proflle You can also see WHO SEES YOUR PROFFlLE

Version 3:

W0W!! l cannot believe that you can see vvho is vvatching ur profflle l just checked my T0P flle lookers and l am trully SHOCKED at vvho ls still viewing my proflle You can also see VVHO SEES YOUR PROFFlLE 

These updates may show up “via Profflle Actvity” or other such apps.

If you click the link, you’ll likely be asked to install an app, which you will believe it going to allow you to see who is viewing your profile. What will really happen is that you’ll install an app that will post updates as seen above on your behalf, without your consent. You’ll also posts messages for free iPads and other ripoffs.

If you notice these posts appearing on a friend’s profile, you may encourage them to uninstall any Facebook apps they don’t recognize (see link below for instructions).

9/24/2012 Update
A new variant has been on the rise recently. The wording is similar, such as:

WOW I cant believe that you can see who is viewing your Profile!
I just saw My Top 10 Profile and Photo Peekers and I am SHOCKED!!
You can also see WHO VIEWED YOUR PROFILE here –> 

There will be a link to an app and the post comes from “Proflie Watcher” – and notice that it is a misspelling of “Profile.

The end result of this new variant is the same as before, but apparently they are trying to change it up to gain some fresh victims. Don’t be one of them!
