Adam Sandler Did NOT Die in a Snowboarding Accident
Rumors that Adam Sandler died in a snowboarding accident swirled around social media circles this week. He’s certainly not the first celebrity death hoax, nor is he even the first celebrity snow boarding death hoax. And yes, the rumor is false.
This rumor can be traced back to the same website that has been responsible for an almost identical story about Brad Pitt a few months ago. Included with the rumor is a link to an official-looking website with the story about Sandler’s demise:
Actor Adam Sandler is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today – November 18, 2012.
The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Adam Sandler lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.
Adam Sandler was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.
What many readers overlook is the fine print on this website, that overly claims to be fake:
THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! this story was dynamically generated using a generic ‘template’ and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank ‘non-specific’ template for the purpose of entertainment.
This website can automatically generate fake celebrity death stories, typically using the same photos and verbiage. That exact same story and photo are used by the same site to report that Jaden Smith and Eddie Murphy had died. The same photo was also used for Jim Carrey death rumors in 2010, which were obviously false as well.
