Have you been receiving messages claiming to be from Facebook, stating that you have new messages from Facebook Support? There have been many such messages going around lately. Today we’ll dissect one of these messages to take a closer look.
Today’s message comes from the name “Facebook Support” with a subject of “You have a new direct message.”
The body of the message contains an official-looking Facebook box that states “You have a new message from Facebook Support” and “Your profile is not configured.” There are buttons labeled “Learn More” and “Go to Facebook.”
The message, however, is not from Facebook. This particular messages came from the email address [email protected]. When you click on the fake buttons in the email, you’ll be taken to a page on trenerzytell.pilicka.pl, which in turn forwards you to genericskorea.com. This is nothing but a typical spammy Canadian pharmacy.
This official-looking Facebook box is just a graphic that links to a Canadian pharmacy.
Why would a Canadian pharmacy send out a fake email such as this? Spammers have learned that people are more apt to open up a message they believe is from Facebook. This particular email also contained tracking code, which means that if you click the link, they can verify that your email address is valid.
If you aren’t sure about a message from Facebook, check who it is from first. You can also log into Facebook and see if support has sent you any notifications there.
