The OCD Spreadsheet Diet
I’m Mr. Spreadsheet, so this weight loss tip is chock-full of bias. On the other hand, it has worked for me, so perhaps it can work for you. My first big weight loss epiphany occurred 10 years ago. I was about 40 pounds overweight and knew it was time to do something. I’m of the opinion that if you’re going to do something as important and daunting as losing weight, you have to do it full-throttle. … Read entire article »

Meth Use Symptoms: Avoiding Your Own Addiction
I wrote an article here on wafflestanoon.com a few years ago about spotting signs of meth use. The response to that article, even three years later, has been overwhelming. It’s gratifying to get the emails that I do, but also disheartening to see that so many people are still living with users of this horrible drug. I’ve tried to answer as many emails as I can on this issue, but there is one piece of … Read entire article »

Adding In Your Head the Easy Way
We were taught in school to add from right to left, but adding left to right is much easier! Take the following math problem. 186 +297 +394 Look at this problem this way… 100 +200 +300 We can all add that up easily, which is 600. Now we’re going to move our attention to the middle column and just keep adding to our total… 600+80 = 680… 680+90=770… 770+90=860… Now we add the right-hand column to that… 860+6 = 866… 866+7=873…873+4=877. With just a little practice, you’ll be adding numbers in your head about as quickly as you can add them on paper, and you’re never really “carrying” numbers the old-fashioned way, it’s more of a running total to which you keep adding numbers. Give it a try. … Read entire article »

7 Steps to Debt Reduction
Getting out of debt is a topic dear to my heart. As a younger man I used my credit cards without caution, even when I had the cash on hand to pay for things. Why pay now when you can pay later? I think of the Foghat song, “Live Now, Pay Later.” Well… later eventually comes. Fast forward about 10 years and suddenly I found myself tens of thousands of dollars in debt, barely able to even make the minimum payments on my cards. The worst part was that even when I did make the minimum payments, my overall debt still went up every month, even without charging anything new. The finance charges (and occasional late fees) outpaced the miniscule minimum payments. Getting out of debt will take time, let’s get that straight. … Read entire article »

Have you ever been pushed into a fight? Has someone ever just pushed your buttons to the point that you couldn’t help but fight with them? Most of us have. Well, I know I have. But if you stop and think about it, that’s really a sign of weakness on our part, and a symbol of control on the other person’s part – even if that other person is a child. We’re letting someone else control our emotions and our actions. And even though many of us think we’re strong people, when it comes to confrontation, all bets are off.
