An internet rumor claims that Chumlee of the hit TV series Pawn Stars has died of a marijuana overdose.
The rumor is false.

This hoax dates back to a phony posting by “Internet Chronicle” on May 14, 2013. The false story began with the following account:
In what may come to be a medical landmark, “Chumlee” Russell of Pawn Stars fame died from a marijuana overdose Monday night and was found by friend “Big Hoss” Harrison on Tuesday morning. Earlier this year, “Chumlee” was arrested with seven pounds of marijuana which he asserted were all for personal use.
According to Dr. Angstrom H. Troubador, “The only possible way he could have died from a marijuana overdose without first clogging his lungs with soot is through the use of vaporizers. Reportedly, Chumlee had rigged up to 90 vaporizers into one tube and had a team of groupies constantly loading them up with the stickiest and most potent of marijuana available on the market.”
The story is a work of fiction, and Chumlee has made public appearances since the May 14 publication date of this story. His Twitter profile has also been quite active, with several photos and video posted over the past few weeks.
Though the fake story of Chumlee’s death was posted back on May 14th, the story only picked up steam in the past few days as it began to circulate heavily on social media.
The reality star eventually tweeted about the hoax himself, first posting a “R.I.P.” message, and then suggesting not to believe the “hype.”
