CorelDraw X5 Crashing Issue Solved… For me.

I waited quite a white to purchase CorelDraw X5, because that’s how I roll. I let the other graphic artists find all the bugs on their watch. Besides, X4 was working perfectly fine for me. So I recently made the plunge during my slow season to pick up X5. My immediate reaction? Two major issues! I’m happy to report that both of those major issues were quite easy to fix. So I’m not rolling along with X5 with no major problems. The first issue I discussed in a separate article was the issue of RGB colors in older files appearing CMYK on the screen. That turned out to be a splendidly easy fix, as you can read here. Notice I said “issue” and not “bug” for that one. But the other issue I would still consider a bug – the CorelDraw X5 crash. After scouring forums for possible solutions, the one that worked for me was terribly simple.

I merely had to set the undo levels to 20. That’s right. I have been leaving that setting at 99 for as long as I can remember, and I was sure it wouldn’t work. But after a couple of weeks, I haven’t had a single crash since making that one change.

I’m not saying that will fix X5 for everyone, but I’m not the only person to have it work, so if you’re having those random crashes in X5, try setting the undo levels down to 20 and see if that works. You could also set the bitmap undo levels down even further if you do a lot of bitmap work in Draw.

Now that I have the color and crashing issues in CorelDraw X5 all smoothed out, I’m able to focus on some of the new features, and I’m starting to finally enjoy this release.
