How to Remove Amazon from Ubuntu 12.10 Search Results

As we impatiently await for Ubuntu version 13.04 next month, we thought it might be a good time to drop a quick post on one of the few annoyances of Ubuntu 12.10 – Amazon results from Dash searches.

To remove Amazon results from your Dash searches, simply open a terminal and type the following:

sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping

That’s it!

Now as we take a look ahead to Ubuntu 13.04, we have good and bad news. There are promises that configuration of such lenses will be easier, but there is also talk of a “100 Scopes” goal which seems a bit daunting. Apparently, these 100 scopes are not in the current beta version of Ubuntu, but we’re keeping an eye out for them.
