Fake News: Hundreds Die After Eating Patti LaBelle Pie

A news item circulating on social media asserts that over two hundred people died after consuming Patti’s Sweet Potato Pie. The story, however, is completely fake.

False News

The bogus news report was published by the website ReportQuickly, which describes itself as “…a combination of real shocking news and satire news.”

In the fake story, we read “As of November 13th, 234 people have been reported dead after consumption of the famous Patti’s Sweet Potato Pie, which are being pulled off of the shelves of Wal-Mart stores. The popular desert rose to fame after a video review of the pie went viral.”

Again, the story is satire, and no deaths related to this pie (or any other) has been reported.

The fake article is correct in one piece of information: the pie gained a significant amount of attention when a video review amassed over 500,000 views in its first few days online. You can watch that review below.

Bottom Line

A story which claims that hundreds died after consuming Patti’s Sweet Potato Pie is simply a fictional post by a low-brow “satire” website.
