Snake Attacking Calf Photo: What Happens Next?

A photo being circulated on Facebook shows an image of a snake wrapped around a calf. Users are encouraged to type such comments as “cow” to see what happens next. So… what happens?

It’s a hoax.

Nothing will happen by commenting on a Facebook photo.

The image being circulated may contain a caption such as:

write cow in the comment box and see the magic —

Adding a comment to a Facebook photo will not make the photo change, nor will commenting somehow magically make new information appear on the screen. This is merely a hoax designed to get more likes for a post, which will increase a page’s popularity. These “what happens next” photos are cropping up all over Facebook in order to fool people into liking an image. These massive numbers of likes will raise a page’s popularity and gain more fans (EdgeRank).

The Photo

As far as we can tell, this image was posted online in October 2012 by Brazilian beef producer BeefPoint. Photo credit on that page is given to Richard Heise. They have also posted this image several times on their Facebook page, the first time being here. None of the posts included any information that we could gather as to the circumstances or outcome of this photo.
