Farming Primal Fires in the Elemental Plateau

Being a fire-speccd, spellfire tailor, I’ve done my share of farming for motes of fire. So I decided to find out for myself exactly which creatures drop the most motes. I installed the MobHealth add-on to keep track for me.

As with most level 70 farmers, I headed to the Elemental Plateau in Nagrand to kill the Raging Fire-Souls. One thing I had never really noticed in my early farming days is that there are level 70 and level 71 creatures. Someone told me that the level 71’s drop more motes than the level 70’s, so I decided to find out for myself.

Let’s look at the level 71 kills… First, I measured it after 100 kills of just the level 71’s

I’m not sure why 100 kills = 82 loots, as I don’t recall a mob never dropping anything. Could be a mod error… So I decided to kill until I had over 100 loots to see if the percentages changed much…

So with the level 70’s, I was unable to find as many, but here are the stats I did collect:

So I can conclude from this small sample that the level 71’s do not drop the motes more often than the level 70’s.

If we combine all of the numbers together, we’ll find 182 loots for an average drop rate of 47.25% from the Raging Fire-Souls in the Elemental Plateau.

That’s pretty good if you can find the Plateau somewhat empty. On the days you have several farmers already working the area, it becomes less and less worth the effort.
