It appears that the Tweet being circulated is fake.

The alleged tweet reads:

First of many changes to #tumblr coming very soon! We will begin filtering out explicit content, in order to make the site safe for kids!

Yahoo went out of its way to promise not to “screw up” their new social media acquisition, and no such tweet could be found on the official Yahoo Twitter page.

In a statement posted online by Yahoo’s chief executive Marissa Mayer, the acquisition was announced along with reassurances that the site will operate independently of Yahoo, and that David Karp will remain CEO.

Fake Yahoo Tweet regarding Tumblr

Mayer even addressed the explicit nature of Tumblr and attempted to put fears to rest: “I think the richness and breadth of content available on Tumblr – even though it may not be as brand safe as what’s on our site — is what’s really exciting and allows us to reach even more users,” she said.

Bottom Line

The tweet claiming that explicit posts will be filtered on Tumblr appears to be a hoax, as it does not appear on their Twitter page, nor have Marissa Mayer or David Karp made such statements.
