Only hours after the tragic bombing in Boston today, social networks such as Facebook and Twitter have seen a rise in conspiracy theories. The most prominent one out of the gate is the photo of the “guy on the roof.”

We were alerted to this photo by a Facebook user, but it has been quickly spreading all over the internet late Monday.

While there is no evidence (as of this writing) as to the identity of the person in the photo, that hasn’t stopped claims that he may have been somehow involved. We spotted one version being shared that included a red circle around the person in the photograph and a caption that read:

People are suspicious because it could be a person watching the marathon or somebody that has something to do with the explosions!

Some Twitter users have claimed that the person in the photo was merely security for the marathon. Others have surmised it could have merely been a spectator.
