A report this week states that rapper Kanye West announced that the first single from his next album will be entitled “Kanye West (featuring Kanye West).” Is this true or false?
The story is satire.
It originated from the fake news website Huzlers, in a report which read:
Rapper Kanye West has announced that his first single for his upcoming album in 2015 will be titled “Kanye West (featuring. Kanye West”. It appears as if Kanye West is trying to make a bold statement that perhaps he is too good to feature any other artist on his songs.
A graphic of a tweet allegedly by West from March 2, 2014 was included as proof of the singer’s announcement. That graphic, however, is also fake. West’s only tweet on that date did not mention a new song.
Huzler’s description states, “Huzlers.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news to keep its visitors in a state of disbelief.” The website appeared in late 2013 with fake stories about Vine star Lil Terio and Sharkeisha, who appeared in a viral YouTube video. Most recently a fake story about Trey Songz coming out also received significant social media sharing.
Kanye West did not announce a new song entitled “Kanye West.” The story originated from a fake news website.
