Uganda’s New Vision reports that the reptile is approximately 80 years old and was believed to have killed four people and mauled several others, leaving fishermen in the area to fear for their lives.

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) responded to pleas by local residents and caught the creature by placing meat on a stick and trapping it with rope.

Over 100 locals residents gathered to view the giant reptile being loaded onto a truck after it was hauled ashore. Many residents were seen touching the trapped crocodile while others commented on its massive size.

Despite its impressive size, this is not the largest known crocodile. That title belonged to a reptile named Lolong, which weighed in at over 2300 pounds and died in early 2013.

The captured crocodile will be transferred to Murchison Falls National Park in Lolim, Uganda.
