I wrote an article nearly 2 years ago about what happens when your Zune won’t turn on. I still stand by that article, but wanted to give a little update to clarify something.
If you have just purchased a new Zune and it’s not turning on, it probably isn’t defective. Read on!
When you plug a Zune in for the first time, it needs to charge up for a while before it will even turn on. It might take 15 minutes or more. Be patient!
Logic tells you that it should just power right up using the power from the USB connection, but apparently it doesn’t work that way. I don’t defend it, nor can I explain why. That’s just how it is.
My son just got an 8 gig Zune for Christmas. He plugged it into the USB port and immediately said it was broken because it wasn’t turning on. I told him it had to charge up a bit first. The 15 minutes it took seemed like an eternity to him, and the entire time he swore I didn’t know what I was talking about.
So if your new Zune isn’t coming on immediately, plug it into the USB port and go do something for a while. If you’ve been using your Zune for a while and it suddenly isn’t coming on, read this entry for more info.
