Facebook is NOT Shutting Down on July 15

Rumors have been swirling this evening that Facebook is shutting down. Even though most people realize it’s just a hoax, there are those who are not so convinced. Where did this rumor begin and is it true?

This isn’t the first “Facebook is shutting down rumor” to float around this year. There was one back in March, which gained considerable traction before sites like Hoax Slayer put it to rest – and of course the supposed shutdown date came and went.

So now we have a July 15 shutdown date. The rumor seems to be more rampant on Twitter than Facebook, and it is being fueled by an article in May by rumor rag Weekly World News. This is the same site known for the bat boy and “photos” of presidents dining with aliens.

There are no credible reports that Facebook is shutting down July 15, or any other date in the near future.

Looks like we’re all still stuck with Zuck.
