A floating strip club that was converted from a crabbing boat in Alaska has been dealing with legal issues regarding liquor laws and safety rules. Now, allegations arise that the club owners have been contaminating a harbor with human waste.
According to prosecutors, both Darren Byler and Kimberly Riedel-Byler have dumped raw sewage from their bathrooms into the Kodiak harbor rather than taking it three miles offshore. They’re also accused of lying to the Coast Guard, by telling them they were properly disposing the waste from their 94-foot “Wild Alaskan,” a crabbing boat turned floating strip club.
Darren was taken into custody last week and had pleaded not guilty. He said the boat has sufficient of room to hold waste in the holding tank.
Below is a video report on this story from CBS.
Authorities plan to arrest Kimberly fairly soon.
A retired fisherman in the area told the AP that the problem isn’t unique. “There are probably other vessels that are doing it,” Nick Szabo said. “They just haven’t gotten caught.”
