A fake Facebook post went viral over the weekend which allegedly told Ryan Gosling’s story of how he was a father for one year.

The fake post – allegedly written by Gosling  – told of how he adopted a baby boy and raised it for a year until the child’s biological father wanted him back. The post amassed nearly a million likes and over 50,000 shares in just two days.

The touching story, however, ended with a strange link to buy a t-shirt, which tipped many off that there was something amiss with the narrative.

This father’s day, I’ve decided to tell the story of how I became a father. This little guy was only 9 months old when I became his dad. His mom and I were great friends before she passed away from cancer. I promised her, I’d always look after him. So, I had decided to step up and become his dad. He brought me so much joy. He was my everything. 1 year later after the adoption, his biological father wanted him. Of course, I put up a fight, but he won. That 1 year of being his father taught me how to love unconditionally. We have to stop and be thankful for our children and children should stop and be thankful for their parents. What I truly learned most of all is, every child needs love. Save thousands of children and meet me while doing it (link removed)

The touching narrative above was posted to an unofficial Gosling Facebook page with about 150,000 followers. A photo of Gosling holding a baby was included with the post. That photo has been circulating online for months.

Gosling’s fake post was not the only Father’s Day hoax to circlate over the weekend. A 4Chan hoax called #endfathersday trended, sparking debate after feminists were blamed for creating the campaign.

Bottom Line

The post claiming that Ryan Gosling was the father of a baby boy for a year was fake. It was posted by an unofficial Gosling page.
