A woman sat dead at a table in McDonald’s in Hong Kong for hours before her condition was discovered the next morning.
The woman entered the McDonald’s on a Saturday and ordered a glass of water. At around 1:20am on Sunday she was seen slumping over onto her table, but nearby customers did not check on her condition, and continued to eat their meals.
It wasn’t until around 8:30 the next morning that it was determined that the woman had actually died.
McDonald’s Hong Kong released a statement, which read:
“To complement the modern lifestyle of people in Hong Kong, some McDonald’s restaurants operate 24 hours a day. We welcome everyone to visit out restaurants any time. In order to provide a pleasant dining environment, we would not disturb our customers, but our service will be offered promptly upon request.”
The woman is one of many homeless people who spend the night in 24 hour restaurants in order to seek shelter. Police stated that the woman had spent nights at the same location in the past.
The official police statement read, “Officers arrived upon a report from a female customer (that a person was found to have fainted),” police said in a statement. “The subject was certified dead at the scene.”
