Social media lit up this week with rumors that the creator of the popular Five Nights at Freddy’s game included hidden messages on his website which hint at a fourth installment of the series.
History
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a popular horror video game. Upon the release of the third installment, Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, fans began to speculate about a possible fourth edition. Graphics began circulating which allegedly showed hidden messages on the game creator’s website that supposedly hinted at future installments. Below the two most prominent rumors in circulation.

Hidden #4 on Website
Several graphics have circulated on social media sites such as Instagram which allege that a hidden number 4 can be seen at the website scottgames.com, which is run by the creator of Five Nights at Freddy’s, Scott Cawthon.
Below is an unaltered screenshot of the website as it appears as of March 4, 2015:
It has been suggested that if the graphic on the website shown above is lightened, a number 4 appears in the bottom right of the image. The suggestion is that the number “4” indicates that the series will continue with a fourth installment. Below are two versions which have been spotted on social media this week.
Hidden Text in Freddy’s Hat
Another rumor also suggests that adjusting the contrast in the photo reveal a hidden image. This variant claims that the hat in the photo contains hidden text. What that text says has also been a matter of debate.
Our Test
We put the graphic above to the test by simply adjusting the graphic’s contrast to around the same level displayed in the examples above. We did not, however, find any hidden messages. There was no number 4, nor did the hat contain hidden text.
As you can see, when the contrast is greatly increased, no hidden images suddenly appear. Further, there have been no announcements from Scott Games or Scott Cawthon about a Five Nights at Freddy’s 4.
Bottom Line
Images which allegedly show hidden messages about a Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 appear to be fake. We could not find any such messages, nor have any such announcements been made.
