George Jung, the man Johnny Depp portrayed in the movie “Blow” has been released from prison after 20 years.
TMZ has reported that Jung, one of the most prolific cocaine dealers of the 1970s and 1980s, has been released to a half-way house. The 71-year old was due to be released in November from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, but was let out early for undisclosed reasons.
Nicknamed “Boston George,” Jung started his drug peddling career in by selling pot in the 1960s, which transitioned to cocaine in the 1970s. At one point it is said that Jung, through his associated with the Medellín Cartel, was responsible for almost 90% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States.
Jung was arrested in 1994 and pled guilty to three counts of conspiracy. Although he initially received a sentence of 60 years, this was later reduced after he testified against a former accomplice.

Johnny Depp portrayed Jung in the 2001 film “Blow.” Jung’s official website refers to Depp as “his good friend.”
