Reports have circulated that cell phones of passengers of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 continue to ring when called by family members, leading to the theory that the plane may have actually landed, rather than crashing into the sea. That theory, however, has been debunked.
After the aircraft disappeared early Saturday, desperate family members attempted to call their loved ones on the fated plane. Some of those family members have reported that these calls to their loved ones have been ringing before going to voice mail.
Tech expert Jeff Kagan responded to these report to CNN, stating that the family members are hearing ringing while the call is attempting to locate the phone:
“If it doesn’t find the phone after a few minutes, after a few rings, then typically, it disconnects and that’s what’s happening. So, they’re hearing ringing and they’re assuming it’s connecting to their loved ones, but it’s not. It’s the network sending a signal to the phone letting them know it’s looking for them.”
Earlier this week, another Flight 370 hoax circulated, in which an image allegedly showed the crashed aircraft in the water. The photo, however, depicted a 2009 splash landing in the Hudson River.
