A news article circulating on social media today claims that Sarah Palin claimed that Jesus celebrated Easter. Is this story true or false?
It’s fake.
The article was published by The Daily Currant, a satirical website. In a post dated October 23, 2013 entitled Sarah Palin Claims Jesus Celebrated Easter, we read a fictional quote the former Alaska governor supposedly spoke in an interview with Fox and Friends:
“When Jesus celebrated Easter with his disciples there were no Easter bunnies or egg hunts. There were no Easter sales at department stores or parades in the street. Easter was a special time of prayer and Christian activism.
“Jesus would gather all the townspeople around and would listen to their stories about the meaning of Easter in their lives. Then he would teach them how to love one another, how to protest Roman abortion clinics and how to properly convert homosexuals.”
While most readers of The Daily Currant are aware of the humorous nature of the website, some readers on social media have shared the story, unaware of its satirical nature.
The “About” page on The Daily Currant clearly states that the contents are works of fiction:
Q. Are your news stories real?
A. No. Our stories are purely fictional. However they are meant to address real-world issues through satire and often refer and link to real events happening in the world.
Bottom Line
Sarah Palin did not claim that Jesus celebrated Easter. The article is a work of fiction from a humorous, satirical website.
