False Report: No Sun For 8 Days

A social media post making the rounds claims that there will be 8 days of darkness in June 2016. It’s not true.

In short, the claim that the world will experience 8 days of darkness is simply not true. NASA made no such announcement, nor have any reputable news sources reported such an event.

Let’s take a look at the post which began circulating on April 26, 2016: The strangely-worded post reads, in part:

From June 10 until June 17, the sun will NOT rise in the sky as it use to . The whole world will be completely dark. That was confirmed by NASA! Menlo Park, California, recently held a press conference at the World Scientist from NASA officially announced.

NASA news BBC, Reuters and CNN news all over the world began to be published as soon as they brawl.

This is a rare happening for the first time in 10 million years, according to NASA. 016 from June 10th to June 17th consecutive 8 days for the earth shall be full darkness. So, from June 10, drawn eight uthabena sun!

This isn’t the first time that several days of darkness have been falsely claimed. In recent years we’ve seen predictions of 15 days of darkness, six days of darkness, and three days of darkness – all of which were supposedly “confirmed by NASA.” The first significant rumor to this effect on social media came in 2012 just prior to the end of the Mayan calendar, which some believed would be the end of the world.

In the case of the current post, along with previous incarnations, a solar storm is said to be the catalyst for multiple days of darkness.

As we stated in an earlier post, a solar storm would not plunge the earth into darkness, although it could cause regional blackouts from damaged electrical transformers.

In addition, NASA cannot predict a solar storm months in advance. It takes about 18 hours for a storm to reach the earth once it has been ejected from the sun. It is impossible to predict a solar storm before it exists.

Bottom Line

A popular Facebook posts claims that the earth will experience 8 days of darkness in June 2016. The post is false, as it is impossible to predict a solar storm months in advance. A solar storm would not plunge the earth into total darkness and no such announcement was made by NASA.
