Tom Brady Sketch

When Tom Brady appeared in federal court as part of the “deflate-gate” scandal, a prominent sketch artist was on hand to relay the drama from inside the courtroom.

Her “likeness” of Brady, however, drew immediate ridicule online, prompting the artist to apologize to the NFL star.

“I try to capture somebody’s essence quickly, so it’s not going to be perfect,” artist Jane Rosenberg told WCBS.

“I feel really bad when I do a bad sketch,” she said. “I apologize for not making him look pretty enough to the world.” She repeated her apology to ABC News, stating, “I have to say, I apologize to Tom Brady if I didn’t make him as good looking as he really is. I’m probably going to go home and feel terrible.”

Despite her apology, Rosenberg defended the sketch to some degree, nothing that Brady was only a small element of the bigger picture. “It was a big composition and Tom Brady was a tiny little head in that composition.”

Social Media Reaction

Only hours after the sketch was released, a slew of funny memes and animations began appearing on social media, and the hashtag #bradysketch trended. Below are but a few examples.

Rosenberg pointed out that she is not active on social networks. “I don’t do social media. I’m not on Twitter,” she said.

Bottom Line

The artist who drew the infamous “likeness” of Tom Brady has apologized for not making the NFL star more handsome, but pointed out that it was a large composition that was drawn quickly. After the illustration was released, social media lit up with countless memes mocking the drawing.
