A Welcome to Louisiana gun warning sign includes a message for criminals and terrorists about the gun carrying population in the state. Is this sign real?
It’s fake.
We’re not sure of the origin, but it appears to have been created a joke, and the text was lifted from a similar joke photo for another state that we discussed a few months ago. Let’s take a look at the fake Louisiana sign, which reads:
Attention Criminals, Terrorists
Over 170,000 Louisiana residents have a legal permit to carry a handgun
They are armed and prepared to defend themselves and others against acts of criminal violence.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Illinois and Chicago, however, have been disarmed for your convenience.
All of the text aside from “Welcome to Louisiana” appears to have been added digitally. Below you can see the altered image and an un-altered “Welcome to Louisiana” sign, which looks quite different.
The text included in this fake sign appears to have been lifted from a “Welcome to Wisconsin” gun warning sign which circulated recently. This would explain the “Illinois and Chicago” reference, as Illinois neighbors Wisconsin.
Even though the text in the photo is fake, there are many gun owners who agree with the sentiment. Have you seen this sign circulated online? What is your opinion of it?

Note that this is the third such Welcome state sign we’ve seen over the past few months. Take a look at the other two:
Bottom Line
The “Welcome to Louisiana” sign which offers a warning to criminals is fake.
