A horrifying image of a bleeding dog appeared online in 2012, with a heartbreaking story of a dog named Corona who was shot in the mouth. Is this story true?
Corona the Dog
Unfortunately, in this case, the story is true. As reported by the Warren County Humane Society in Tennessee, the dog was found bleeding as a stray and reported to the Humane Society. At first the source of the wounds weren’t apparent, but after further examination, a Dr. Tate discovered that the dog had injuries and flash wounds in the mouth and throat, indicating that someone had put the barrel of a gun down the dog’s throat and pulled the trigger. It was suggested by Corona’s vet, Dr. Gayle Tate that the dog swallowed some of the bullet fragments after being shot.
As the story began circulating on Facebook, via photos posted on their Facebook page, users from around the world began leaving comments of disgust toward the abuser and sympathy for the dog. Donations began pouring in and it has been reported that all of the dog’s care has been paid for. Further donations to the Humane Society and clinic caring for Corona continue. The dog has had hundreds of offers of adoption.
Happily, Corona appears to be making a swift recovery as video shows her appearing much healthier only days after the attack and has been given an “excellent” chance of a full recovery.
“She almost died, but she didn’t,” Dr. Tate said.
As of this writing, the person responsible for abusing Corona has not been identified, though the investigation in ongoing.
