Teen Car Explosion

The short video shows the two teens sitting in a car. One young man is sitting in the driver’s seat, while the other is seated directly behind in the back seat.

The man in the back appears to reach for a lighter. Moments later there is an explosion which travels from the back of the vehicle to the front, lighting both of the teens’ hair on fire.

The camera which is filming the incident falls over and films the sky while screams can be heard in the background and the car radio continues to play pop music.

Aftermath

One of the teens, whose name on Instagram is listed as Mohammed Al Azzam, states that he was burned on 6% of his body, and posted an image which shows his injuries.

Conclusion

Due to scant information, it isn’t clear if the explosion was due to butane being inhaled by the young men (as some have suggested), or if there was simply a gas leak in the car. Those claiming that the teens were inhaling butane point to the rag being held by the man sitting in the driver’s seat.

The video was posted to YouTube on September 1, 2015, and quickly amassed over a million views in a few days. Looping gifs of the explosion could also been seen circulating on social media networks.
