Cat Survives 8 Days in Box After Being Mailed

A Siamese cat spent 8 days in a box full of DVDs after it slipped into the package and its owner shipped it off 260 miles away.

Cupcake arrived dehydrated, scared, and but otherwise unharmed after the ordeal.

The cat’s owner, Julie Baggott, apparently didn’t see Cupcake slip inside the box she was packing. The woman sealed the box and dropped it in the mail without realizing her pet was still inside.

Baggott noticed her pet was missing but hadn’t realized Cupcake was in the box she mailed. According to a statement by the vet that treated Cupcake, “They had been frantically searching for their beloved cat, putting up posters in the local area but not for one second realizing that she had been accidentally posted to an address in West Sussex, more than 260 miles away!”

Fortunately for the cat and its owner, Cupcake had a microchip which allowed them to be quickly reunited. “I feel terrible about what’s happened,” Baggott told the BBC. “I put everything in the box and sealed it straight away, so I don’t know how she managed to get in there.”

“It was a miracle because she was alive, she’s managed to survive that awful ordeal.”

The cat was sent from Cornwall to West Sussex. Vets said Cupcake responded to fluids and recovered quickly.

Cupcake isn’t alone in her ordeal. In the early 20th century there were a few children in the U.S. who were “mailed” before laws closed the loophole.
