The current beard craze is in full swing, as evidenced by new numbers which show a sharp increase in beard transplants in recent years.

With men donning beards in growing numbers over the past few years, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that baby-faced guys are looking for surgical options to enhance their facial hair.

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery has released numbers showing a sharp rise in beard transplants over the last 3 years. The procedure jumped from 1.5% of all hair restoration procedures in 2012, to 3.7% in 2014. Another figure released by an overseas medical assistance company Medigo shows beard transplants have risen by 600% over the last 10 years.

The procedure involves taking single hairs from the back of the man’s head and placing them on his beard region. Once complete, the hairs grow and can be shaved the name as normal whiskers.

The cost of a beard transplant can vary from $4,000 for minor patches up to as much as $20k for a complete overhaul.
