A graphic for a movie entitled Mean Moms has been circulating online since early 2015 which features Jennifer Anison, Sandra Bullock, and Cameron Diaz as the stars. Is this real or fake?
It’s Partially True
Variety confirmed that a Mean Moms movie was in fact announced by New Line Cinema and set to star one of the women featured in the poster: Jennifer Aniston.
While Variety announced back in 2014 that the release date was initially set for May 8, 2015, the project has not started production and no date has been set for the film’s release.
In 2015, it was announced that Sean Anders would be directing and co-writing the film with John Morris. Anders provided updated information about the project, stating that it was in hiatus, although he did confirm that a final draft of the script had been written.
It is currently in a holding pattern right now. We just had a meeting with the studio last week and we are waiting for it to be officially greenlit. Not much we can say at the moment, but we’ve done many iterations of the script and we have finished our final draft and we really, really want it to happen.
Neither Sandra Bullock nor Cameron Diaz were ever announced for the film. Variety stated that the inclusion of these women in fan-generated movie posters “are purely figments of the Internet’s imagination and are not confirmed.”
Mean Girls
The fake movie poster is reminiscent of a Mean Girls graphic which circulated in late 2014. That image promoted a reunion interview with the original Mean Girls cast, but led some readers to believe a Mean Girls reunion movie was in the works.
Both Mean Girls and Mean Moms are based on books by Rosalind Wiseman.
Bottom Line
The graphic circulating which claims that Mean Moms stars Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, and Sandra Bullock appears to be nothing more than a fan-generated movie poster. A Mean Moms movie has been announced with Aniston set to appear in it, but no date has been set and there is no indication that Diaz or Bullock are involved.
