A 5-year-old boy in Britain has received a bill for $24 due to his nonappearance at another child’s birthday party.
Bills are not a pretty thing to get in the mail, but a United Kingdom family received one bill that left them in total disbelief. And, if they don’t pay the bill, they may be taken to court.
5-year-old Alex Nash of Cornwall got an invitation to a birthday party for a friend of his at a ski and snowboarding facility.
Initially, the little boy was going to go. His parents – Derek Nash and Tanya Walsh – responded and said the little boy would be in attendance. A little while later, Alex’s parents realized they had previous plans for the same day and would be unable to go.
According to Derek, he no longer had contact information of the mother, Julie Lawrence, for the birthday boy to make her aware that Alex had changed his mind and would not be attending the party after all.
A few days later, Alex returned from school with a $24 invoice for the birthday boy’s mother in a brown envelope. Inside the envelope was a formal invoice for the $24, which is a no-show fee for the party after the parents didn’t let Lawrence know about the change. The invoice included the mother’s banking information, name and e-mail address.
At first, Alex’s parents believed it was a joke. Derek said it went to his son’s teacher and school officials to express his frustration. After that, he confronted Lawrence at her home. But, the Lawrences threatened to take Alex’s parents to small claims court if they did not pay for it.
Alex’s parents are attempting to use Facebook to take care of the situation. However, the parents of the birthday boy have yet to make a public comment over the issue.
