A video posted on July 1, 2015 shows a man in a wingsuit who performs the daring stunt of flying through a 2-meter hole.
Wingsuit Flight
Uli Emanuele spent three years preparing for this death-defying stunt which included a wingsuit flight through a miniscule hole in a mountain.
The stunt was performed in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland, and captured from multiple angles, including a GoPro camera on the man’s body.
The video opens with Emanuele measuring the hole, which he estimated to be 2 meters, and 60-70 centimeters, or about 8.5 feet. A first attempt the previous day saw the jumper fly past the mountain, apparently at an angle he was not comfortable attempting. “After yesterday’s problem,” he said, “I will try again from the other side of the mountain.”
The video, which is shot from multiple camera angles, begins with the man adjusting his goggles, preparing to jump, and then leaping from the side of the mountain. After making a slight right turn, the hole in the mountain face becomes visible. Multiple angles are shown of the man successfully gliding through the small opening. He releases his parachute and lands near a small hut.
The Daily Mail notes that the stunt was performed back in September 2014, although the video was not released until July 2015.
The risks of such stunts are real. In May, two BASE jumpers were killed at Yosemite National Park after attempting to fly through a “notch” on a mountain.
