Ageless Male is a supplement which is claimed to boost testosterone as a means to reverse the unwanted effects that come with a drop in the hormone.
About Ageless Male
Men’s supplements are big business. Many men have found that a drop in testosterone is an unwelcome part of aging, along with all of the unwanted effects that come with it. Ageless Male is a supplement which is claimed to boost testosterone as a means to reverse the unwanted effects that come with a drop in the hormone.
Ageless Male is a supplement produced by New Vitality, which also produces Super Beta Prostate, which we have already discussed in this article. The Ageless Male website is very succinct in their claims: “You can expect Ageless Male to help boost your free testosterone levels with correct use.”
In 2012, Ageless Male was advertised using the domain tryagelessmale.com. In 2013 it was advertised with the domain agelessmalefree.com, while in 2014 it has been found at ageless-male.com. In 2015, the domain name was shortened to agelessmale.com.
The main ingredient is called Testofen, which is a trademarked name for fenugreek. This is a plant which used in a variety of culinary dishes from the Indian subcontinent.
The following disclaimer is posted at the bottom of the website: “These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.”
Studies
Along with male libido, Fenugreek has also been stated to help with lactation, diabetes, cholesterol, heartburn, constipation, and several others. According to WebMD, however, “Fenugreek is used for many conditions, but so far, there isn’t enough scientific evidence to determine whether or not it is effective for any of them.” There has only been one significant study regarding the effects of fenugreek on male libido, which did report positive findings. However, that study didn’t actually measure testosterone levels, so while fenugreek has a study on its side that points to increased male libido, it wasn’t proven to increase testosterone. For many men, this isn’t a deal-breaker, but Ageless Male specifically states, “The active ingredient in Ageless Male has been shown in published human research to help significantly boost testosterone levels still within a safe, healthy range.” They do not cite this “published research” and the only fenugreek study widely reported was that of libido, not testosterone.
Ingredients
The primary ingredients listed on the New Vitality website as of this writing are as follows:
- Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCI) 4.94 mg
- Magnesium (as magnesium oxide) 16.88 mg
- Zinc (as zinc oxide) 15mg
- Testofen (standardized fenugreek seed extract) 300mg
It should be noted that older reviews of Ageless Male seem to indicate that there was a different active ingredient at one point. This review, for example, lists saw palmetto and astaxanthin as the proprietary blend. Other reviews have stated that it contained saw palmetto, astaxanthin, and Testofen. Some reviews don’t mention Testofen at all. The Ageless Male bottle we purchased did not list saw palmetto or astaxanthin, so it’s unclear what the history of this active ingredient is. It appears as though the ingredients have changed since 2011.
