Our Emery Cat Review
We picked up an Emery Cat Board at a local Target. We immediately found that the board was not as sturdy as expected, and it kept flipping over when the cat attempted to use it. Although the television ad remarks that the product is durable, we found that a smaller cat was able to tip the product over rather easily.
In all fairness, the Emery Cat Board is probably more durable than other cardboard scratchers we’ve tested, as those tend to be easily destroyed. As to the primary purpose of this product – filing a cat’s nails – we did not see any discernible difference in the cat’s nails after using the board.
We’ll probably stick with the cheaper cardboard scratchers for now, as they do the job despite being easily destroyed.
We should mention that the cat toy included with the Emery Cat Board is not very durable and didn’t last long. The cat did seem to enjoy for the short period of time that the fun lasted.
Television Commercial
Below is a television commercial for Emery Cat Board which ran a few years ago:
Transcript of television commercial:
Here kitty, kitty! Ever try to clip your kitty’s claws? It’s impossible and can cause your cat pain. Now your cat can trim her own claws with Emery Cat, the fun new kitty scratcher that actually grooms cats’ claws while they play. Look, cats’ natural urge to scratch can rip up your whole house. Clippers cut too close to the sensitive inner tissue and nerves causing pain. But just like an emery board lets you file your own nails, Emery Cat lets your cat file her own claws. The patented honeycomb design works just like a powerful emery board. Infused with cat nip so kitty keeps coming back. The arch design is ideal for stretching and scratching and it’s durable enough for larger cats. It even comes with a cute playful kitty toy.
“It was such a struggle with my cat always pulling back and meowing at me every time I tried to cut his nails, but now with the emery cat it’s great, he can do it himself.”
“The Emery Cat files their nails naturally, they love to claw on it and there is no more problems with my furniture, my curtains, or anything else, I love it.”
Ordinary scratching posts can cost as much as $100 and it wont trim your cat’s claws, but the Emery Cat is just $19.95 and it comes complete with durable base, emery board infused with cat nip, and cat toy. As a special bonus, you’ll also get the de-shedder. It goes deep down to the undercoat to help eliminate shedding at the source. It’s a $15 value, yours absolutely free. But wait, call right now and we’ll send you a second Emery Cat and de-shedder free! Just pay processing and handling you get it all: 2 Emery Cat Boards with durable base emery board infused with cat nip and cat toy plus two de-shedders. All for just $19.95, call now.
Bottom Line
The Emery Cat Board is a good idea, but perhaps made too cheaply to be worth the time. If you are determined to try it, pick one up locally to avoid shipping costs and delays.
