About  Clever Grip

Clever Grip is a phone holder by Bell+Howell that is secured to your vehicle via the climate control vents. It is said to help you to keep your eyes focused on the road. Clever Grip is marketed as different than competing products in that it has a 360 degree pivoting head and is adjustable to all phone sizes. It is advertised as small and lightweight.

Clever Grip is black and gray, and works by using an adjustable spring-loaded clamp and a clip which attaches to the climate control vents in your vehicle. It weighs less than half and ounce and the dimensions, according to Amazon, are 2.5 x 1 x 2 inches.

Another potential use for the Clever Grip is as a stand in your home.

The official website is buyclevergrip.com, which was registered in June 2014.

Cost and Availability

Clever Grip is available online from the official product website and also from a number of other online vendors. Some people have reported finding it in stores which sell As Seen on TV products for about $15.

The official product website sells Clever Grip for $14.95 plus $7.95 shipping and handling. You can get a second Clever Grip for another $2.95. You can opt out of this second item.

Sales tax is added to orders from California, Nevada, New Jersey, and New York.

Reviews

Clever Grip is an As Seen on TV product that has been on the market since mid-2014, and reviews for the product are readily available.

The product has a spring loaded mechanism that allows it to hold a phone or other device measuring up to 3 inches, but it may not accommodate some of the largest phones like the iPhone 6 Plus or Samsung Note. Conversely, some of the thinnest phones may also not fit as snugly as one would like. These concerns aside, an overwhelming majority of users have found the product to work about as expected.

Our product researchers have some concerns about the placement of the product near the heating and cooling vents. While the phone will not likely be affected by cold air blowing across it, there is some concern that using it with the heat on may cause some phones to overheat, especially phones which tend to run hot under normal circumstances.

Despite those concerns above, reviews for Clever Grip are mostly positive. Over 250 users on Amazon, for example, rate it 4 stars. It has been said to generally work as expected and as advertised.

Similar Products

There are a multitude of phone holders for the car available online. Another car phone mount which was advertised on television in recent years was GripGo. Unlike Clever Grip, which generally works as advertised, GripGo was a complete failure in our tests.

Bottom Line

Clever Grip is a cellphone holder that can hold most phones and rotate 360 degrees. It features clips which attach to your climate control vents and can serve double duty as a stand for your smart phone on a table or other surface. There have been some concerns that it may not hold very large or very small phones, or that running the heat while the cell phone is attached could cause problems for the phone. Those concerns aside, most users have expressed satisfaction with the product.
