Fargo Man Has Two-Word Humorous Obituary

One of the last wishes of an 85-year old Fargo, ND man was granted recently when his obituary humorously consisted of only two words.

Brief Obituary

In what may be one of the shortest obituaries ever published, the two word announcement simply read, “Doug died.”

85-year old Douglas Legler led a full life filled with humor and wit, according to his daughter Janet Stoll, but he was not a fan of long memorials.

“He said over and over, when I die I want my obituary to just say ‘Doug Died,’ ” says Janet Stoll, Legler’s daughter. “(Other people’s obituaries) would say ‘he was the president of this, a director of this’ and Dad would say, ‘What, couldn’t they hold down a job?’ ”

When Legler passed away on June 27, his family honored his wish of a short obituary, which was published in the The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.

It has been pointed out that his obituary was actually shorter than his name.

His daughter concluded , “I’m sure he’s laughing up there now.”

Legler’s obituary is even shorter than the 92-year old Swedish man whose 2014 death announcement read, “I am dead.”
