Television commercial
Below is a television ad for Micro Touch One Razor which has been running since early 2014:
Transcript of the commercial above:
Hi, I’m Rick Harrison and this is my pawn shop, and after 25 years in business, there’s one thing I’ve learned: you never know what’s going to walk through that door. Like this old-fashioned safety razor. For almost 100 years the single blade was the best way to shave. Soldiers, presidents, even my pop used one. So why in the heck did big razor companies start adding more and more blades? So they can charge you more and more money. Trust me, you only need one blade. That’s why I use the new Micro Touch One. It’s the modern version of this timeless classic. Even professional barbers today still only use one blade to give their clients a perfect shave, same as my Micro Touch One. One blade gives me one perfectly-smooth and comfortable shave every time. And unlike those multi-blade razors that are tough to clean, so gunk can build up and make them less effective, the Micro Touch One opens up with a simple twist so you can easily rinse your blade and preserve the closeness of every shave. Which means your blades will last longer, and it feels like a precision crafted machine right in the palm of your hand. With the new Micro Touch One, I save money and you know I like that. Plus I get a perfectly-smooth on my face and on my beautiful bald head. Trust me, you’re going to love this razor. So why keep shelling out big bucks for multi-blade razors that don’t really last, when now you can save money and get the best shave of your life with Micro Touch One for only $19.99. It comes complete with 12 blades and a deluxe travel case. But as part of this limited TV introduction, you’ll get 12 more blades free. That’s 24 blades, enough for a full year of smooth shaving. Yes, you get it all, and your satisfaction is guaranteed, so call or go online now.
Our Micro Touch One Razor Review
One important item to note – which is not fully explained in the television ads – is that shaving with a safety razor like the Micro Touch One is a different experience than one may expect with modern multi-blade razors. There is a learning curve involved, and this could affect user satisfaction with the product. For example, there is no pivot head, which means you must handle facial corners with more caution, and you will want to use less pressure than you use with a standard cartridge razor. This also requires a bit more dexterity, as the non-pivot head may not be as forgiving as a pivoting modern razor.
Preparing the area to be shaved with soap and warmth before shaving is also crucial. The type of blades used can also affect your experience with a safety razor. The blades included with Micro Touch One may not be satisfactory to everyone who purchases Micro Touch One, although replacement blades by other manufacturers could improve the experience you have with it.
Not everyone wants to re-learn their shaving technique, so this should be a factor if you are considering purchasing this product. There is an instruction sheet with tips “For First Time Safety Razor Users.” It gives “four keys to a successful shave.”
1. Use as little pressure as possible. Let the weight of the razor do the work for you.
2. Hold razor by the tip of the handle.
3. Angle the blade at a 45 degree angle.
4. Shave with the grain of your beard.
In our tests, we found that Micro Touch One performed satisfactorily, ranking as an average safety razor, and out-performing the average multi-blade cartridge razor. The shave achieved when using a safety razor is superior, provided the face is properly conditioned and care is used when shaving.
Micro Touch One is not a bad product. Overpriced, perhaps, but it does deliver.

Upselling
When you call to order the razor direct from the company, you’ll be met with a salesman who will attempt to upsell you, or offer “free” gas vouchers, which end up resulting in a monthly subscription. If you refuse, you’ll likely be repeatedly called back by additional salesmen.
Alternatives to Micro Touch One
Micro Touch One is certainly not the only player around. We’ll defer to this excellent article by Sharpologist, which examines many of the double-edge offerings available. That article notes that new double-edge razors can vary from “under $5 to well over $200.” You can also peruse some of the high-rated safety razors on Amazon to get a feel for what else is out there.
Bottom Line
The Micro Touch One is an average double-edge safety razor. The learning curve involved may dissuade those who have not attempted this type of shaving.
Because the product is now available in stores, we recommend purchasing locally to avoid shipping delays and charges, as well as annoying follow-up sales calls. You may also consider other safety razors before making a final decision.
