Abidexin is a diet pill which has been advertising online over the past two years. It promises to help curb appetite, boost metabolism, and reduce body fat. But does it actually help you lose weight? Read our reviews.
What is Abidexin?
This supplement includes several common ingredients (see below), all of which have been heavily marketed over the past few years and can easily be purchased at any supplement shop. The official website is abidexin.com, which was first registered on July 11, 2012.
Although the product is sold in a prescription-looking bottle, it is actually not a prescription drug.
Currently, the only FDA-approved pill for weight loss is Alli.
Claims
The website and advertising for Abidexin list the following benefits for taking the supplement:
- Reduce unwanted body fat
- Boost metabolism
- Curb hunger
- Increase energy and focus
The website’s title states “Best Diet Pill – Powerful Fat Burning Ingredients.”
Abidexin Ingredients
The label lists the following active ingredients:
- Caffeine Anhydrous, 210 mg (Powdered caffeine)
- Green Coffee Bean, 200mg
- GreenSelect Phytosome Green Tea, 150,mg
- Irvingia Gabonesis, 150mg (African Mango seed)
- Coenzyme Q10
Several of these products have been marketed – with mostly negative reviews – over the past few years, even though some studies have found they might be of some benefit. CoQ10 remains a controversial and unproven supplement, while a couple of the other ingredients we have already addressed on this website.
African Mango (irvingia gabonesis) was highly touted by affiliate marketers back in 2011 who posted fake blogs and deceptive advertising. Its popularity has since waned.
Green Coffee saw an explosion of marketing hype in mid-2012, sometimes billed as “slimming coffee.” As it turns out, the benefits of “slimming coffee” are no different than drinking a cup of regular coffee. See our article Does Slimming Coffee Really Work? for more info.
Studies
The five studies listed on the official Abidexin website did not examine this specific product, but the specific ingredients. These are only select studies, and the website (for obvious reasons) doesn’t cite studies which found no benefit.
How much does Abidexin cost?
Purchasing Abidexin direct from the official website yields the following costs:
- 1 bottle: $49.95
- 2 bottles: $79.95
- 3 bottles: $109.95
The recommended dose is 1 to 3 pills, twice a day, taken no later than 7 hours before going to bed. Taking the maximum dose means a bottle will only last you only 10 days. This could be well over $100 for a 30-day supply.
Affiliates
One problematic concern we’ve seen with Abidexin is that it is a darling of affiliate marketers, many who offer their own “reviews” of the product in hopes of selling it to readers. Be on the lookout for a glowing review which ends with a link to purchase the product.
Our Abidexin Review
One of our staff took Abidexin for a month and reported that he had not lost any weight during that time. He also stated that the effect of the pill was similar to having too much caffeine, including an afternoon “crash” and headaches. Although our subject did not report any nausea, we have heard reports that some users found the product to cause upset stomach.
Your response to Abidexin will probably be unique. Keep in mind that caffeine and green coffee bean may cause restlessness, jitters, or headaches.
In addition to our reviewer, a search of additional online reviews for Abidexin yields a relatively small percentage of positive comments.
Bottom Line
Our test of Abidexin was not deemed a success. Some consumers may find that it works, while others may not. All of the active ingredients can be easily found at a local health store – much less expensive than the $100+ price tag for the maximum dosage of Abidexin.
In the final words of our reviewer: “I probably could have just consumed more coffee and green tea and saved my money.”
